Fine Art Labels

Baron Philippe de Rothschild began the tradition of illustrating wine labels in 1923 and famously produced a label to commemorate the end of WW2 in 1945. Since then many famous painters including Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol and Francis Bacon, have contributed art for the labels, commanding high prices for collectors at auction, even though the contents has no value. By emulating this tradition, Custom Wines produces its personalised fine art wine labels as a new medium to promote the work of talented contemporary artists.

Our unique wine labels are produced by a Giclée print process on fine cotton canvas, to emulate the authenticity of fine artwork. Each label is hand crafted and produced as a numbered edition, which may be considered as a collectable piece of art in its own right, serving as a lasting memento of the occasion, long after the wine has been drunk! To support this feature, a Certificate of Authenticity is included with your gift of wine, describing the artist and their work.

Custom Wines uses a giclée print process, which is a technical term for producing professional fine art prints from a digital source. The resolution achieved using this technology is much better than a lithograph or silk screen print as it produces standards of permanence comparable or better than other collectable artwork.

Giclée prints are recognised by the Fine Art Trade Guild, an internationally recognised body for developing and maintaining standards in Printing.
